After making numerous types of veggie burgers my techniques for cooking, freezing and reheating are the same regardless of the type of veggie burger patty I make.
I have found old fashioned rolled oats to be my preferred ingredient to hold the veggie burgers together. I always make the veggie burgers the night before as this gives time for the rolled oats to absorb the moisture from the wet ingredients. This is an important step as it makes patty firmer and more moist.
To save time make the patties the day/night before, then bake them just before ready to serve. This is my favorite burger press. Note, all veggie burgers need to be cooked before freezing.
Instructions for Cooking
Place burger patties on parchment paper line baking sheet.

Place another layer of parchment paper over top the patties, then lay a silpat over top the parchment paper. This is important to keep the burgers from drying out while in the oven. The silpat is to hold the parchmnent paper in place while the patties are baking. Alternatively, loosely cover the baking pan with aluminum foil.

Bake for a total of 35 – 40 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove the cover and carefully turn patties over, cover and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes. Do not over bake.

The patties should be firm but still moist when you break them open.

Serve burger patties as is or with desired toppings. Keep leftover burgers in an air tight container and refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze in a sealed container.
Instructions for Freezing
To prevent the patties from sticking together, place a piece of parchment paper in-between the patties, then stack and freeze up to 5 months.

Instructions for Re-heating
Because I don’t use oil in my veggie burger recipes they must be covered to prevent them from drying out while re-heating. When doing just one or so, I use an Air Fryer. When heating up for a gathering I use an oven.
While patties are still frozen, briefly dip it/them under running water, wrap in parchment paper and put in an Air Fryer. Alternatively, a Reuseable Toaster Bag like this works great. When heating several patties, dip each in water, then lay patties on a parchment line baking sheet then cover with foil.
Air Fryer
- Moisten frozen patty, wrap loosely in parchment paper and place in Air fryer at 400°F for 7-10 minutes.
Oven
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Place moisten frozen patties on a parchment line baking sheet. Cover with another layer of parchment paper/foil, and bake for 15-18 minutes.
Microwave
- I’m sure a microwave would work well however I don’t use one, so I can’t make a comment.
