Kala namak is a violet-pink-grey colored salt and is often referred to as black salt. It has a pungent sulfur odor reminiscent to hard boiled eggs. Therefor it is getting to be a popular ingredient in vegan and plant-based recipes.
This salt can be found in most Indian grocery stores or can be purchased on line. If you live in the Edmonton region, kala namak can be found at Spice Island.
