Traditionally Chinese Five Spice is made with a blend of cinnamon, cloves, fennel, star anise, and Sichuan peppercorns. This mix is a unique combination of flavor as it’s warm, sweet, and spicy. I found I preferred this spice without the added heat of the peppercorns thus have created my own blend that is a staple in my pantry.
Yield: ¼ cup
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp ground cloves
- 1 Tbsp ground fennel
- 1 Tbsp ground star anise (about 5 whole)
- Blend to mix well and store in an airtight container.
